As soon as taper begins, my first checklist item is stretching. Yes, we should all be stretching throughout the year, but I am incredibly diligent about my stretching at this point. The last thing I want are tight legs on marathon morning. What I am currently focusing on are my hips so I have been continuing my hip flexor stretches that I posted about last month. I am careful to not miss a night of stretching and my legs are thankful for this.
On Friday, I asked for input on my playlist and you all had awesome suggestions. I downloaded at least one song from each suggestion I received, and the dork in me is giddy knowing that I will think about each person when that song comes on. This morning I spent a few hours downloading the new music and organizing it with my old music. I have a four hour playlist ready to upload to my iPod. I am hoping my power song comes on at the right time, but I did add it twice in there just incase. :)
Currently I am working on clearing my Garmin. UGH. I have made it to the start of too many races to find the "Lap history full, please delete old activities." error message. This is annoying as I hate deleting activities that weren't necessarily recorded. (I didn't start Daily Mile until November of 2011, so I don't have the best record of how many miles I have run.) So, now I sit and wait for my little Forerunner to empty all my activities onto my computer. While waiting, I ran across my splits from last year's race:
To say I am proud of those splits, would be an understatement. Those splits give me courage to execute my current race plan that I have in mind. Yes, I slowed down at the end, but the slow down wasn't too bad as I knew I was within my goal of 3:40.
After the Garmin, I will figure out packing. The forecast for Sunday is looking a little warm, so it looks like I will be wearing shorts and a tank. Now which shorts and tank is the question. I am excited to head to my Brooks summer running gear and pick out a few choices. My lungs are thankful for a slightly warmer day, I just hope that the heat doesn't roll in until most people are off the course.
For a list of what I am bringing and a reminder for your next marathon, here is what will go in my bag.
- Long-sleeve running shirt
- Sports Bra
- Compression socks or sleeves
- Arm warmers
- Water belt + bottles
- KT Tape
- Garmin + charger
- iPod + charger
- Bondi Band
- Race number belt
- Road ID
- Throwaway clothes
- Sweatpants & Jacket for checked bag
- Body Glide
- Extra water bottle
I am sure I will add to this list as the week goes on. I also have a list going in my head for what I need to bring on my trip. I plan on wearing my TeamSparkle skirt to the half marathon and making a few signs. If you are running the half or Goofy, let me know and I will add your name to my signs. I will Tweet where you will see me on Friday night. Also, if you will be down there, let me know and maybe we can meet sometime.
What am I missing from my list? Do you love lists or do you try to wing it like my crazy husband and pack just hours before your plane leaves?
