So Much for Recovering and Goals for this Cycle

So on National Running Day, I knew I wouldn't just run my recovery 5 miles. I decided to try out a new pair of shoes and see how my legs felt. If I felt good, I would try for me. Well I got in 7 really good miles that day. Really good in that I progressively went from 9:15 pace all the way to 7:55 pace for my last mile. My legs felt great after so I went for a recovery 5 yesterday and will do 9 General Aerobic miles today. So I am officially in my training program for the Twin Cities Marathon. Now we will see if I can handle this big of a program, if not I will scale back a bit if my legs can't handle.

Yesterday, on my run, I was thinking of goals for this training cycle. I will set my goals today and re-visit them just before and after the marathon.

Goal A--This is a long shot, but I want to qualify for Boston. I need a 3:40:59. This would drop about 15 minutes off my marathon time. This is doable, but I am thinking this will happen next May, but can hope for October.

Goal B--3:45. I think this is my best bet. I know I had more left in the tank after Vermont so think that I can drop 10 minutes off that time.

Goal C--3:50. Like I said, I know I had more left in the tank, and think I could have ran this at Vermont if I wouldn't have held back. I only put this here as if I go for BQ, then I am hoping if it isn't going to work and I blow up that I still get a PR.

Amazing goals, and I love that you've got a few backup goals as well. I think it's important to be realistic, and then if you get your long shot, you totally surprise yourself and can't wipe the grin off your face!

Good luck with them all, I'm cheering you on for Goal A! :)

I haven't run anything beyond 8 since my marathon last September. I'm planning 9 this weekend. I'm still undecided about the marathon this year or not, but reading your posts makes me want to go for it!

Thanks! I can't wait to see what you decide for your running this year. It is fun to train along side people.

I just did 9 this morning at my marathon pace from last week and it felt great. I guess technically it is now my new general aerobic pace.

aron--Yes, October 4th. I will definitely be following you as well.

Caroline--Yes I am doing the 55-70 plan. I will probably know within the first 2 weeks if I need to cut back one of the recovery runs to a rest day.
